Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Friday said the state government would provide 25,000 jobs in public sector in next two years besides creating "thousands of employments" in private sector.


"The government had provided employment to more than 60,000 people in public and private sector during the last three years which include 27,000 employments in government sector alone and it is committed to provide more than 25,000 employment opportunities in the next two years in the government sector," he said while presiding over the state level Himachal Day function in Bilaspur district. 


In the past three years, 3,237 teachers were appointed in higher education sector, 5,000 appointments in the elementary education department, as many as 3,355 posts have been created for upgraded educational institutions and 1,775 posts for newly sanctioned medical colleges,
besides promoting 4,527 teachers. 


He said that 2, 458 posts of various categories of doctors including specialists have been filled in health sector besides appointing 7,503 Asha workers.


More than 1,300 appointments have been made in the police department alone, Singh said.


The Chief Minister said that under the 'Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojna', for providing houses to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, an allocation of Rs 25 crore was made and housing subsidy had been raised to Rs 75,000.


He said that social security pension had been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 650 per month. 57,000 new cases were sanctioned while 14,000 additional eligible persons are getting pension from April 1. The pension for persons above 80 years and for widows aged below 45 years with children had been enhanced to Rs 1,200 per month.


Further, the assistance under 'Mukhya Mantri Kanya Daan Yojna' had been increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 40,000 and 25 percent concession in fare was being given to women in HRTC buses.


In addition to this, 37-lakh eligible persons have been covered under 'Rajeev Gandhi Ann Yojna' and getting 35 kg of ration per month at highly subsidised rates.


Singh said that a sum of Rs 773 crore have been spent on water supply schemes.


Singh said that an AIIMS will be set up in Bilaspur. The process has been initiated to take over the ESI Medical College in Mandi, the CM said, adding three government medical colleges are coming up at Nahan, Chamba and Hamirpur.
